Batting For Both Teams
Discovering your bi-sexuality
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to ‘be’ with males and females? Ever wanted to explore bisexuality? Some people would consider the thought as being too ‘out there’; but perhaps you – like a lot of others, might be curious to explore. It can be quite strange to feel romantically and emotionally attracted to both genders. It’s not considered the ‘norm’ by some behind the time old school know-it-alls. Don’t worry that pretty little face of yours! You are not all Bi-yourself. Finding what you’re attracted too is an exciting experiment, not something to be afraid of. There is a significant amount of bisexual and bi-curious people in the world. If you look at it this way, you have so much more to choose from! #Variety.
How do I know if I’m bisexual?
If you find yourself being attracted to both men and woman, then you might be! The intensity may not be the same for each. You could find men more attractive than women or vice versa. Both genders have such different qualities. A woman (most of the time) is elegant and gentle whereas a man (again most of the time) is rough and dominant. If you like the idea of both, then perhaps you do swing both ways. Even if this is the case – and you do like the sound of both, you don’t always need a label! You can always just go with the flow. Chances are if you’re looking at someone thinking ‘sit on my face’ or something along those lines then you’ve got a case of attraction on your hands.
Coming out
Coming out can be quite scary. Just remember that a vibrant community awaits you! Come out with confidence and be proud of who you are. If you do lose some friends, the only people who will be left surrounding you, will be people who love you for you. Make sure you take it all in at your own pace. There’s no rush to figure things out, take your time. No need for an internal debate on what’s right and what’s wrong, there’s no correct answer.
Where do I meet Bisexual people?
Jumping online/onto your phone is a fantastic way to meet new people. Apps like Tinder and Bumble allow you to choose which gender you’re looking for (most sites and apps do for that matter). SCISSR and HER were also created specifically for queer women and non-binary folks, along with Plenty of Fish, Lesly, and Fem.
If you’re from Sydney then try heading up Oxford Street, Darlinghurst or around Newtown and Erskinville. Sydney has a buzz filled, thriving collection of LGBTQ venues. The ARQ is a great place for you party people out there. Since 1983, The Imperial in Erskineville has been an icon and an institution of the LGBT+ community. In March 2018 after a much-needed nip and tuck, this national treasure reopened to showcase her new look, so definitely worth a visit.
You are accepted
It’s 2019! Everyone is jumping on the open minded band wagon. You should never have to hide your sexuality; it is not something to be ashamed of. It’s important that you don’t bury your feelings due to what others may think. Talk to close friends or family, perhaps you know somebody in the same boat. If someone tells you off, calling you ‘confused’ or telling you that you’re in a ‘phase’ then look for someone else to talk to. Being comfortable in your own skin is one of the best feelings out there so never go hiding your true self. If someone else judges you, it’s their own damn loss. Flaunt it baby!
