Guide to Sex Toy Care

Adult Sex Toy Care Guide

CLEANING SEX TOYS

Taking proper care of your sex toys will prolong their life and reduce the chance of infection or irritation. Me and Mrs Jones has a variety of products that are designed specifically to keep your toys clean and in top hygienic shape. Sex toy cleaners are an easy and convenient way to clean your sex toys. You simply spray it on and wipe it off. These save the hassle of hauling all of your toys to the sink after every use, and yes, we highly recommend that you wash your toys after every use to extend the toys life and discourage the growth of bacteria.

If you do decide to wash toys in the sink, use warm water and a mild, unscented soap. Avoid antibacterial soap with alcohol. Remember not to submerge any battery powered or non-waterproof toys. Sex toys are made of porous or nonporous materials. These material types will determine the best cleaning method for that particular toy. Porous toys can generally be cleaned in the same way – just take extra care – as nonporous toys; with soap and water or with a sex toy cleaner. Sex toys will always disclose on their packaging what material they are made from.

Some Porous Materials Include:

  • Hard Plastic
  • Jelly
  • Cyberskin
  • Foft Vinyl
  • Rubber
  • Latex
  • Neoprene
  • Nylon

Some Nonporous Materials include:

  • Glass
  • Stainless Steel
  • Silicone
  • Pyrex

Pryrex and stainless steel toys can be boiled or put into the dishwasher. Do not expose a glass toy to high temperatures for risk of shattering or warping. We recommend soap and water or sex toy cleaning products for silicone and glass toys. If you’re ever unsure about the proper cleaning care of your sex toy, refer to the specific product information.

SEX TOY STORAGE

Store your sex toys in a box or a bag to keep them from getting dirty between uses.  You don’t want to use a dusty toy full of lint or pet hair. Make sure that the toys are placed into their storage box or bag after they have been thoroughly dried. Storing a wet toy will encourage bacteria and mould growth – two things that apart from being unsanitary, will shorten the life of your toy.

If you are worried about them being discovered by your child or family member, store in a locked case.

  • Ensure your toys are clean before storing them
  • Check your toys for damage before putting away
  • Store each sex toy separately. Many come in a pouch.
  • Make sure your toys don’t touch each other
  • Dry your toys away before storage.
